A poem by Isabelle Sorrells

They didn’t want her to speak

Because they knew it wouldn’t be what they wanted

So they thrust all her darkest deeds and fears upon her

In hopes of shutting her up.

But she knew

What needed to be said

Was needed

Even more than the secrets of her sins.

So she gathered up their evil promises

And their ugly mirrors

And stepped into the light.
